Update Jules March 2009:
On 21 December 2007, right now more than a year ago, Anupong Sutthani and Seksan Prommana were convicted for the murder of Jules.
Seksan Prommana got a lifelong imprisonment and is now doing time. Anupong Sutthani was sentenced to death in his absence and is currently still on the run.
During the whole previous year (2008) Jules’ family has not been idle and has repeatedly made clear to the Thai authorities that they will not rest until Anupong Sutthani has been traced and arrested.
The family is pleased that they have the full support from the Dutch authorities in this. Notably Mr. Fred Teeven, Member of the Dutch Parliament, the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok have been very helpful.
At the end of December 2008 the family travelled to Thailand in the company of Mr. Fred Teeven. In Bangkok they had meetings with Police-General Pansiri Prapawat of the Royal Thai Police and with the Attorney General of Thailand.
With these meetings they wanted to renew the attention to Jules’ murder case and to the fact that his murderer is still at large.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Thai authorities.
Jules’ brothers and sisters and Mr. Fred Teeven were most impressed by the very warm welcome at the Royal Thai Police headquarters.
During this meeting Police-General Pansiri Prapawat assured the family that he and the Royal Thai Police will do all they can to trace Anupong Sutthani and to have him arrested.
Police-General Pansiri Prapawat presented a thorough plan of approach to us and introduced us to the members of his criminal investigation team.
The family has complete confidence that The Royal Thai Police will succeed in achieving their ends.
